If you're looking for an easy family meal that the kids will love – this chili cheese dog casserole will do the trick. It's a low carb dinner option using ingredients you probably already have.
As far as dinners go, casseroles are my favorite. Basically, anything that allows me to get other things done as I cook is my type of meal. Plus, this is a great meal idea for kids!
Chili Cheese Dog Casserole
So, why not just make chili cheese dogs? Well, first of all, this is an easier and less messy option for families. Plus, you get all the flavor of the hotdogs baking for awhile.
Can you use bread?
In this particular hotdog bake, I'm using low-carb wraps – but you can use tortillas. You certainly cannot use bread or hotdog buns in this bake unless you enjoy soggy bread.
However, you do have the option to bake all of the ingredients without the wraps! You can bake according to the recipe, then transfer into buns afterward.
Is this Spicy?
No, this recipe doesn't have any spicy ingredients. However, if you prefer spicy, you can mix some chili powder into the ground beef. Another option is to pour a can of spicy chilis in with the petite decide tomatoes.
What veggies or sides go good with this chili cheese dog bake?
I'm always a huge fan of corn with ground beef, which is included in this recipe. I'd serve this casserole with corn on the cob or tater tots.
What toppings can you put on this low carb bake?
After you finish baking your chili cheese dog casserole, you can add the same toppings that you would for regular chili cheese dogs or hotdogs. I recommend the following:
- Mustard
- Onions (fresh cut or grilled)
- Additional shredded cheese
- Sauerkraut
- Relish
