Life, Animated: An honest look at a boy with autism and how Disney movies helped transform him into a man

I just finished watching one of the most inspiring, honest documentaries I’ve ever seen. Life, Animated is about a boy with autism that couldn’t speak, but found a way to communicate through animated Disney films.

3 TV shows that touch on mental illness appropriately #wellness

Mental illness is real. Some illnesses are talked about and recognized more than others, like bipolar disorder. Then there are ones that people think are made up like body dysmorphia, self mutilation, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. We need to talk about mental illness because ignoring it or hiding it will only push others away. We need a good support system and people around us who understand when it’s time to give us our space, comfort us, or just to remind us that it’s okay. It’s shows like these that take us from pretending mental illness doesn’t exist, to talking about it without shame or embarrassment.

3 reasons why women can’t wait to see Queen of Katwe (plus a new featurette) #QueenOfKatwe

Queen of Katwe is going to be one of the most beautiful, inspiring, and emotional movies to hit theaters this year. I get butterflies just watching the trailer and the new featurette. I believe that Lupita Nyong’o is perfect for her role as a mother. When I spoke to her about her motherly role in The Jungle Book she mentioned how much she wants to be a mother because of the strong mother figures in her life.

It took me an incredibly long time to climb out of a hole that I dug for myself when I let others define my self worth. Sometimes changing your life means taking things one step at a time. I think it’s important to work on yourself from the inside out.

When we were kids… Remember When #BehindTheBlogger

I love reminiscing on good times. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I think that I am addicted to nostalgia. It’s one of the most natural, beautiful feelings that we can ever have. Nostalgia is described as “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.” If you feel nostalgia about anything, then life has brought you moments of happiness that will always live within you. I think of nostalgia as “remembering when” because it’s always something that I say when thinking of the good ole days. I thought that I’d share a few with you.

Let’s make Loving Day an OFFICIAL Federal Day – Acknowledging multiracial families #LovingDay

In 1967 the US Supreme Court made a decision between the Lovings vs Virginia, which struck down all US State Laws banning interracial marriage – mainly between non-whites and whites. This is a day to remember and a day that should be celebrated until the end of time. I know that it’s easy to get wrapped up in all of the hate, but we truly are a loving nation and we should remember where we came from. I couldn’t imagine a life that wouldn’t allow me to be with the one that I love.

Dear Childhood Me #BehindTheBlogger

This is going to be a very emotional post. This is a post in a writing prompt blog hop called, Behind The Blogger. This week’s prompt is “Dear Childhood Me”. We are to interpret every prompt in our own way, as long as we use the words in the prompt. This is going to be a letter to my childhood self. I didn’t have a very good childhood. I’ve opened up about my childhood a few times on my blog, but never have I given you a peek into how I view my “childhood self”.

How I’m Staying on Track For My 2016 Goals #Wellness #Health

I usually don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but I promised myself that 2016 would be a year full of focus, hard work, and great opportunities. I am pretty proud of everything that I’ve accomplished this year. I can’t take all of the credit, though. I’ve had a lot of help from Nature Made B-12 Vitamins. Nothing compares to a natural energy supplement from a brand that you can trust.
